The Podesta emails were first published by WikiLeaks in October of 2016, almost simultaneously with the Washington Post and their publication of the infamous “locker room comments” video by Access Hollywood. This coincidence was later used by Hillary supporters as proof that Trump had colluded with Russia. In total, over 57,300 Podesta emails were published by WikiLeaks, with the final segment being released on Election Day. Democrats argued that Russians had used Guccifer 2.0 to access Podesta’s emails as part of their misinformation campaign.
Although there were significant efforts to prove the identity of Guccifer 2.0, the Democrats never did succeed in unveiling the man (or the woman) behind the digital mask. It has also never been proven that Guccifer 2.0 was the one responsible for stealing the emails from Podesta and the DNC that were published by WikiLeaks. In fact, it has been suggested that the real source of the leak was Seth Rich, a DNC employee (and vocal supporter of Bernie Sanders) who was fatally shot in July of 2016, a case which remains unsolved.
In Dutch interview broadcast in August of 2016, Julian Assange referred to Seth Rich and his murder without provocation, asserting that the sources of his leaks would be concerned. Purportedly, the only reason for Assange to bring up Seth Rich when discussing the types of risks that leakers take would be that Rich was actually the source of the DNC and Podesta emails.
WikiLeaks offered a reward of $20,000 for any information that would lead to a conviction in Rich’s murder case, further muddying the waters and supporting claims that Rich was, in fact, the leaker of the DNC and Podesta emails.
In a report published by Nation, a left-leaning organization, former NSA agents asserted that the emails were leaked directly from the inside—it had to have been someone who was granted access to the DNC computer system.
Similarly, the Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS) conducted their own investigation and came to the same conclusion—it was an inside job, performed somewhere on the East coast, and not done by the Russians. Founded in 2003, VIPS is composed of former US intelligence officers from the CIA, FBI, and NSA.
After concluding their investigation, VIPS requested that President Obama disclose any evidence that would show that the DNC data was extracted by Russia. Although the intelligence community assessment showed that they were highly confident that Russia was connected, Obama ultimately determined that the connection was inconclusive. For VIPS, this directly supported their claim that a DNC insider was responsible for the leaks. Reliance of the FBI on the Discredited “Russia Dossier” May Threaten Prosecution of Manafort FBI.
To further support the claim that the investigation into Russian collusion was one-sided, approximately half of the attorneys hired by Special Counselor Robert Mueller hired were either pro-Clinton or pro-Obama. This gives probable cause as to why the following evidence listed in the next letter went ignored, along with the Uranium One scandal, the Democratic funding of Fusion GPS and their discredited “Russia dossier,” and ongoing allegations that the Clinton Foundation has always operated as a large conspiracy with criminal intentions and Russian ties.
A CNN article published in September of 2017 reported that Manafort was under electronic surveillance before the election and after through a warrant issued by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance court. Unnamed sources suggested that this information came from an illegal leak potentially traceable to the FBI, to Mueller, or both. Reportedly, this secretive warrant was issued as early as 2014, centering on consulting work with Manafort and Ukraine. Ultimately, however, these unnamed sources deemed the evidence as inconclusive.
In October of 2017, Manafort received money laundering and tax evasion charges for financial transactions with Ukraine between 2006-2007. The indictment handed down by Mueller did not mention the Trump campaign and collusion with Russia—but Manafort’s work with Ukraine had been discontinued for two years before managing Trump’s campaign.
Uncertain still is whether Mueller employed the “Russia dossier” created by Fusion GPS to warrant FISA surveillance. In fact, he deftly avoided direct questions on the subject during a House Judiciary Committee hearing in December of 2017.
Based on a doctrine created by the Supreme Court to be applied to illegal search-and- seizure cases, the “fruit of the poisonous tree” dictates that either the FBI or Mueller (or both, potentially) compromised their investigation by using the discredited Fusion GPS “Russia dossier” to warrant electronic surveillance granted by FISA.
